Pet Safety Seminar Warns Owners of Holiday Hazards
Local Veterinarian Educates Community with Free Seminars
Boulder, Colo., November 12, 2007 - Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's Eve can be times of celebration for pet owners. But those holidays can be dangerous for their pets. Many pet owners don't realize that items commonly associated with year-end holidays can poison or injure their animals.
Veterinarian Lee Woods, TV pet health expert and hospital director of Broadway Animal Hospital in Boulder, is offering two free seminars this holiday season to help pet owners recognize potential dangers and keep their pets healthy.
"Most people are surprised to learn what common household items associated with the holidays can poison or injure their pets," says Woods. "Like young children, pets are prone to investigate and explore. The holidays bring more interesting things into the home. Because pets don't have manual dexterity like humans, they pick up materials with their mouths. That can expose their mucous membranes to poisons, and then toxins spread throughout their systems."
Woods says he created the seminar because his animal hospital treats poisoned or injured animals every holiday season. "I'm inviting all animal lovers to join us for one of these seminars and learn the five things all pet owners should know to help their pets avoid holiday dangers," says Woods.
Holiday Dangers for Pets is the first in Broadway Animal Hospital's Grand Re-Opening Lecture Series aimed to educate the community about pet health topics. Seminar participants will tour the newly remodeled pet hospital and boarding center, and meet Dr. Lee Woods and his staff.
The free, one-hour seminars will be held at Broadway Animal Hospital, 1405 S. Broadway in Boulder, on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 5 at noon. Call 303-499-5505 for reservations; space is limited and reservations are required.
