From Corporate Jungle to Canine Baths:
Fortune 500 Consultant Grooms Pets at Broadway Animal Hospital
BOULDER, Colo., February 15, 2007 -- Many adults think about changing careers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 67 percent of American workers don't like their jobs, and 41 percent of them are not employed in the fields they studied in school.
So some people, like Broadway Animal Hospital’s Delilah Deese, make dramatic career moves. As a well-paid Fortune 500 corporate trainer, Deese wasn’t happy. The Michigan MBA longed for a different kind of corporate jungle—one composed of canines. So she attended the International Academy of Pet Design. And today she is a professional groomer and stylist with Broadway Animal Hospital in Boulder.
"Now I love going to work," says Deese. "Being a pet stylist is like going to art class for the entire day and having new masterpieces to create. I cannot wait to see what kind of dogs will be waiting for me, what breeds I will be exposed to, and what new techniques I will learn," she says.
After receiving a certificate in pet grooming, Deese apprenticed with seasoned pet stylists to hone her skills, and worked for several years grooming animals, including show dogs, in Atlanta before moving to Boulder. Deese says she loves working with animals at Broadway Animal Hospital. "I am in the business of transforming creatures in great need of care into fluffy and loveable pets. I give owners advice and help in any way I can whenever they call. I am in the business of making both pets and owners happy and I love it!"
