Canine Flu Vaccine
As you may know, several dogs in the Denver metropolitan area have been diagnosed with the canine influenza virus. The virus is very contagious and has caused some canine deaths. Symptoms of CIV are similar to kennel cough: runny nose, cough, and eye redness. But CIV is much more serious.
Colorado and Florida have the highest rates of occurrence in the U.S., and CIV has been seen in 30 states. We have not yet seen any cases at Broadway Animal Hospital.
The virus can be prevented with a vaccination which is administered in two parts. Three to four weeks after the initial injection, a booster vaccine is given. After that, annual vaccinations are administered as part of your dog’s annual/regular vaccine series.
We are committed to protecting the health of all the animals we serve: our boarding guests, daycare participants, and all our patients. For that reason, effective immediately, we require all our boarding and daycare dogs to have the CIV vaccination. We also strongly advise all non-daycare and boarding dogs to be vaccinated immediately.
Please help us to keep all of our valued patients healthy. Call us today at
303-499-5505 to schedule an appointment for your dog’s vaccination. As always, we welcome your questions about CIV or any other pet-related matter.
